THE 26 year league championship drought for Windsor & Eton ended on Monday evening at Stag Meadow.
Windsor racked up an impressive 101 points and only conceded a miserly 20 goals in their 42 game campaign which saw them crowned Southern League Division One South & West champions with a 1-0 win over VT FC.
It was an immense performance from the Royalists throughout the season which at one point saw them threaten to go unbeaten but that dream was ended by a 2-1 loss at Bridgwater Town on Saturday, March 13.
Having gone a club record 32 league games without suffering defeat, Windsor did lose three times in an exciting finale to the season as they edged out AFC Totton by a single point.
Manager Keith Scott admitted to a mix of emotions: "It was a feeling of relief and joy when the final whistle went," he said.
"It had been a tough year.
"At the beginning of the season we set out our stall, we wanted to win the league and we wanted to do it in stages - top five then win the league.
"I'm delighted for the players, I really am, the players have just got on with it.
"In all honesty the best team won the league. If ever a championship deserved to go to a group of players this was it.
"I'm delighted we've broken the 100 point barrier. The players are disappointed they've not gone through the season unbeaten. They thought they could do it until the Bridgwater match.
"But we've got 101 points out of 126 so to only drop 25 is an incredible effort."
The boss is now looking forward to Saturday's end of season presentation before he turns his thoughts to the future.
"We've got the end of season do on Saturday which we will enjoy then I've got to see the chairman (Peter Simpson) and have a chat with him," commented Scott.
"I'm delighted for the chairman, he has put money into the club for 15 years and he has finally got a championship under his belt which is what he deserves, on top of a Berks & Bucks Cup last season.
"That man deserves a lot of credit for what has happened at the club."
Scott believes that the current players have the ability to perform at the level above but strength in depth would have to be added.
"If you look at the squad it needs to be bigger in the Southern Premier or Ryman Premier," he said.
"But those players can play at that level, they've proved it against Farnborough and Evesham this season. There are four or five that can easily play higher than that as well."
