WINDSOR & Eton were made to work hard for a 1-0 victory over their tenants at Stag Meadow, Bedfont Green on Thursday night.

The Royalists made heavy weather of it as they hit the woodwork and missed a penalty before receiving a scare themselves as Green hit the bar.

However, the crucial matter was the three points and a fine effort from Adam Dickens was enough to earn the win.

It takes Windsor to within two points of AFC Totton with a game in hand.

"It's all about the three points," said manager Keith Scott.

"It would have been nicer if we could have made it easier for ourselves but we didn't."

The hosts hit the bar and post before Dickens scored from a free-kick in the 51st minute and the game could have been wrapped up shortly after.

Bedfont were reduced to 10 with a handball on the line but top scorer Michael Chennells hit the bar from the spot.

"To be fair I think that galvanises the opposition and deflates you a bit but the lads were all exceptional," remarked Scott.

Windsor go to Bracknell Town on Saturday whilst Totton host Taunton Town before the final game of the campaign as VT FC visit Stag Meadow on Monday already assured of their play-off spot.

The boss added: "Every team we play seems to turn up against us.

"People are expecting a big score because they are bottom of the table and have conceded a lot of goals but Bracknell won't make it easy for us. I will take 1-0 right now.

"We will have to go there and impose ourselves on the game."
