Scott insists hurt will inspire players

BOSS Keith Scott believes the hurt suffered by Windsor & Eton's players after their first defeat of the season can inspire them to go on and win the league.

Their amazing run of 32 league games without losing came to an end as they were beaten 2-1 at Bridgwater Town on Saturday.

That cut the gap to 13 points as AFC Totton have three games in hand.

They won 2-1 at Stag Meadow against Bedfont Green Saturday. Although they suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Paulton Rovers on Tuesday night but bounced back to win 3-1 at home to North Leigh on Thursday.

However, Scott is not unduly worried about Windsor's loss, he remarked: "This is why I wasn't obsessed with the unbeaten run, all we have done is lost a game and we've got to pick ourselves up.

"It is credit to our players, looking at their faces and into their eyes, they were probably more disappointed than me in that dressing room afterwards.

"Only time will tell whether that loss is a good thing or not. Everybody wanted to be the first team to beat us. We've shown that we are human after all.

"But you've got to put that into perspective, we are 33 games into the season and have only lost once.

"We've got to get back into the track of winning games."

Next up for the Royalists is a home match with play-off chasing Cirencester Town on Saturday and they then go to struggling Taunton Town on Tuesday evening.

"Cirencester on Saturday is the important one, the players are focused on that," stated Scott.

"It is my job to get those players to focus on what they have to do as a group and the challenges ahead, which is concentrating on winning one game at a time so we can win the league.

"We want to make sure that the defeat doesn't happen again, looking at the players I know they are focused on making sure we don't lose. They were hurt by it. You could see the disappointment.

"The players wanted to have a game midweek to get back to winning ways and get back on a good run.

"The most important thing is we learn from what has happened and we focus totally on the next game. We will prepare well for it as we always do.

"The players were desperate for a midweek game, they wanted to get straight back out there."

The boss is not setting any targets in terms of points required to clinch the title and fully expects Totton to push all the way.

"We've got nine games to go and we need to win as many games as possible," he said.

"Totton are capable of winning all 14 of their games but they have got some tough games - Paulton twice, VTFC, ourselves and Bridgwater.

"Realistically ourselves and Totton are capable of winning all of our remaining games but what we've got to do is take each game as it comes.

"I am working on the theme that Totton will win all their games, they are a very, very good side and I totally believe they can do that so we need to win all our games."
