MICHAEL Chennells fired Windsor & Eton 17 points clear at the top as he hit a hat-trick in their 3-0 triumph at VT FC.

The midweek victory on the south coast, coupled with Cinderford Town's win over second placed AFC Totton, extended the gap and put the Royalists in the driving seat.

"We played exceptionally well," said Keith Scott.

"They are a dangerous side and I can see why they are where they are (chasing the play-offs).

"We counter-attacked very well and had to defend well because they put us under pressure for spells.

"It was a good football match, both teams played well."

Chennells buried the opener into the top corner in the 13th minute but he did not stop there as his deadly finishing continued. Eleven minutes before the interval, the striker finished with his left foot having been put through.

The result was wrapped up late on when Chennells was put clear again and made no mistake in the 82nd minute.

However, it is the lack of goals conceded at the other end rather than the ones that Windsor are scoring that the manager takes more pleasure out of, Scott remarked: "Even though I was a striker, I get more pleasure out of clean sheets than scoring goals.

"I think we have to take our hats off to the defence, only conceding 11 goals in 24 games. They need a lot of credit, they were under a lot of pressure yesterday (Tuesday)."
