WINDSOR & Eton will put their push for promotion on hold on Wednesday evening to host Wycombe Wanderers in the quarter-finals of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup, writes Robert Stevens.
Windsor are the current holders after beating Marlow 1-0 at Stadium MK, home of Milton Keynes Dons FC, in last season's final.
The two clubs have numerous connections with each other, most notably Windsor Manager Keith Scott who was acclaimed to be the fan's favourite to take over at Wycombe after Peter Taylor's departure earlier this season.
Scott officially threw his name in to the reckoning for the job but was eventually beaten to it by former Aldershot manager Gary Waddock. The Royalists supremo also had three spells at the club as a player, making 74 appearances and scoring 25 goals.
Windsor's 3-0 away victory at North Leigh on Saturday meant the club equalled their longest recent unbeaten run of 14 games and Windsor would love to set a new record against professional opposition.
Scott's side are unbeaten in 22 league games and are currently 11 points clear at the top of the Southern League Division One South & West. They have not lost at Stag Meadow since going down 2-0 to Evesham United in an FA Trophy First Qualifying Round replay on October, a run of eight games.
Wycombe Wanderers are the most successful team in the competition having won it 26 times. They last won the cup in the 2004-05 season, and their most successful period was during the 1970's when they were victorious in four seasons, (72-73, 73-74, 77-78, 78-79).
However, the Chairboys have been struggling in the league as of late. They currently sit 23rd in League One, seven points away from safety, and having played at least three more games than the teams around them.
With the battle against relegation taking priority for the first team it is likely the visitor's will field their reserves.
Winning two and drawing four of their six games Wycombe Wanderers Reserves, much like Windsor, are still unbeaten in the league. They are currently sixth in the Totesport.com Combination East Division, 13 points behind leaders Peterborough, but with five games in hand.
Games against Southend and Colchester were postponed, so Richard Dobson's team have not played since beating Northampton at the end of October. Striker, Ashley Chambers is the team's top goal scorer with two but has since moved on loan to Grimsby Town. The player is owned by Leicester City and joined Wycombe on loan at the start of the season.
Windsor and Wycombe last met in a friendly at Stag Meadow in July this year with the visitors running out 4-0 winners.
Elsewhere in the draw, last season's runners-up Marlow with travel to Slough Town, Thatcham Town will host Burnham and Abingdon United will play Maidenhead United.
