Nathan Jack celebrates scoring his first Windsor goal.

Football

A FIVE star performance from all involved at Windsor & Eton saw them triumph 5-1 on Saturday.

To start with it was a committed few supporters that helped shovel snow off Stag Meadow to get the game to go ahead and then the players did their part as they banged in three late goals to seal an emphatic victory over Hungerford Town.

The home side dominated possession for the majority of the game but it looked like their stout display at the back could dig them out of trouble but eventually the pressure told. Nathan Jack scored on his Windsor debut but Alex Green came off the bench to equalise before Andrew Fagan immediately restored the home side's advantage and Michael Chennells along with a Marcus Richardson brace wrapped up the points in the last five minutes.

Manager Keith Scott said: "We won 5-1 but I thought in fairness they were lucky to get away with five. We hit the post three times, had one cleared off the line and missed chances I felt we should have scored. Based on chances created we could have had eight or nine.

"They got back into the swing of things quickly, it was a magnificent performance and a good result.

"Hungerford are a dangerous side on their day, we allowed them back into it but once we got the second goal it was all over."

Windsor were soon on top but the radar was not working as Joe Chandiram's ball over the top found Jack but keeper Dominic Green saved well.

Jake Parsons, who is unstoppable at the moment, headed over before shooting wide after Bruce Wilson had slotted the striker through.

Winger Parsons continued to be the thorn in the side for Hungerford as he set up Jack who shot wide and then Fagan had an effort cleared off the line by Bradley Clark.

The Royalists were still on the hunt for an opener as Jack saw a shot blocked and Jake Parsons volleyed against the post. Town rarely threatened but when they did Rob Bullivant saved comfortably from James Lewis.

On the stroke of half time Jack opened his Windsor & Eton account when he pounced on a rebound to fire home after Matt Seedel's shot was blocked.

The danger from Parsons did not subside after the interval as his solo run and shot was pushed past the post by Dominic Green and he then teed up Chennells who smacked the upright.

However, a double substitution from Alan Clark brought immediate dividends when Alex Green headed home Mark McMeekings' ball to equalise in the 68th minute and it was the first time Windsor had conceded in 745 minutes of football and broke their run of seven consecutive clean sheets.

Although the hosts hit back three minutes later when Jake Parsons played in a debatable free-kick for Fagan to head beyond the keeper.

Fagan was denied his second by Dominic Green who also thwarted Chennells from substitute Richardson's flick on but Windsor's late goal flurry made sure of the result.

Five minutes from time David Pearce crossed for Chennells to head goalwards and it was too hot for the keeper to handle as he was adjudged to have fumbled it across the line before dragging it back.

Richardson then powered a Pearce corner into the back of the net in the last minute and then coolly slotted home his second in injury time.

The Royalists supremo added: "The linesman was there on the line to give the third goal so all credit to him for being in a good position.

"With the free-kick (for the second), sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't. That is just sour grapes from Hungerford as they could have been four down by half time.

"I would like to say a big thank you to all the supporters who came down early on Saturday morning and were forking the pitch until 1pm when the referee arrived to get the game to go ahead. If it wasn't for their help, there wouldn't have been a game."
