Jets sign new star
Ice hockey
SLOUGH Jets have beaten off stiff competition to sign Elite league record breaker Adam Calder.
Calder, 34, brings an excellent hockey pedigree with experience on both sides of the Atlantic, where he has played in the WCHA, AHL, IHL and ECHL leagues in North America.
Left shooting Calder then played a season in Europe before having four massively successful seasons in the UK Elite League with Coventry Blaze.
The signing is a major coup for the Jets, who had to beat off interest from UK Elite League teams and teams from European leagues.
Jets Head Coach Peter Russell believes the 5 foot 11 addition will bring great skill and added energy to the already outstanding Jets line up.
"I am thrilled to sign such a skilled player, this is a huge signing not only for the Jets but for the EPIHL," beamed Russell.
"Adam is a top-notch player and a great person. He is a leading Elite League goal scorer and a player who plays with 110% passion every shift.
"I was looking to bring in a guy who would be a potential game winner and in Adam we have that for sure. I'm certain he'll soon be a fans' favourite."
He added: "I'd like to thank Zoran and Ghislaine for backing me and enabling me to complete this signing."
Russell has moved quickly to replace Blaz Emersic, who left the club with immediate effect last week, adding: "I didn't really get involved with that, the owner made the change. Just like Blaz, I've not got much more to add.
"He is a good player and will do well for any team in this league and has done really well for Slough."
In light of a very competitive weekend coming up, Jets supporters are encouraged to cheer the team on as Calder makes his debut against Swindon Wildcats at the Hangar on Saturday.
