CAPTAIN Blaz Emersic scored a hat-trick as the Slough Jets triumphed 5-2 over the Basingstoke Bison on Saturday.
Former Jets star Steve Moria led the Bison to a win on his return to the Hangar earlier in the campaign, but it was not to be this time around as Pete Russell's Jets continued their fine form with their sixth win on the bounce.
With his first goal for the club, Billy Phillips gave Slough a 5.27 lead that they were never to lose.
Emersic doubled the advantage with his first at 7.03 and there were then chances at both ends, with the visitors just edging the shots.
However, Gregg Rockman dealt with everything he faced and the home team took the period 2-0.
The Jets continued where they left off, with Peter Jasik scoring just 2.32 into the middle period and Emersic netted his second at 27.05 to make it 4-0.
Slough dominated the scoring opportunities through the period but, with just 10 seconds left on the clock, Tom Long pulled a goal back for Basingstoke.
The visitors pushed hard to drag themselves back into the game but Emersic's hat-trick goal at 50.18 sealed the points. Mindaguas Keiras pulled a second back for Basingstoke at 55.27, but the home team coasted through to win.
Head coach Pete Russell said: "Saturday we played really well, we took our chances and got what we deserved."
The Slough Jets were unable to complete a weekend double over the Basingstoke Bison as they lost 3-0 on Sunday in Hampshire.
It was not ideal preparation for Slough though as they hit trouble on their way to Basingstoke on the A33 and turned up late.
However, they did enjoy a good opening period which was goalless as both teams spurned opportunities.
Tom Annetts continued to keep Slough at bay, but eventually Gregg Rockman was beaten at 30.50 by Ondrej Lauko as he put the home team ahead in a penalty free game.
Steve Moria doubled up their lead at 37.19, before Tom Long took the game's first penalty.
Slough started the third period with 54 seconds of powerplay remaining and the home team were not long at full strength before Mindageus Keiras took a delay of game penalty.
Ollie Bronniman picked up an abuse of official penalty in the final 10 minutes, but there was no way back for the Jets as ex-Slough hardman Nicky Chinn netted with 1.01 left.
"Stats wise might show we could have got more from Sunday, but we lacked that killer instinct," admitted head coach Pete Russell.
"In the first period of the game we could have won it. We carried on from where we left off the night before but didn't score.
"They sit in a lot. Once they scored we had to take more risks and their goallie had a fantastic game, he took it away from us. It's disappointing to lose but we will get over it."
