THE Slough Jets started the New Year in style by cutting down the Sheffield Scimitars 4-1 at the Hangar on Saturday.
Before the game Slough head coach Pete Russell was joined by fellow Jets star Ciaran Long and the members of Sheffield who also played in the GB Under-20 team for a gold medal photograph after their triumph in Hungary last month.
Following a fairly even start, with both teams having chances, it was Slough who went shorthanded at 10.23 when Jan Melichar sat out an elbows penalty, but that also saw the home team open the scoring with Long netting at 12.18 shorthanded.
Slough edged the period 1-0 despite sharing 20 shots equally, but the second period saw the Jets really dominate as they racked up 13 more shots on goal than the visitors.
Dan Davies netted at 26.42 to double the lead and just after halfway Slava Koulikov made it 3-0 at 31.52.
Michael Bowman scored the final goal for Slough at 36.24 to make it 4-0 and give the home team a comfortable margin at the second interval.
The third period saw Sheffield outshoot Slough and while Ben Bowns in the visitors net saved his 10 shots, Gregg Rockman finally had his shutout broken at 44.34 with a powerplay goal from Mark Stewart.
As time ticked out the game Sheffield called a late time-out with 119 seconds left, but Slough completed their 4-1 victory.
They backed this up on Sunday in overtime drama as the Slough Jets claimed an excellent 7-6 victory at Manchester Phoenix thanks to a five star display from Blaz Emersic.
The hosts got off to a bright start when Adam Walker netted just 37 seconds in and 1.05 later Manchester were 2-0 ahead when Iain Bowie found the back of the net, but Jets captain Emersic scored his first of the night at 7.05 to pull a goal back.
The period saw Slough denied a goal and netminder Gregg Rockman saving a penalty shot to end up 2-1.
Tony Hand gave the home team the first goal of the middle period at 21.46, but the second period belonged to Slough as they carved out a lead.
Emersic scored his second at 28.12 and completed a straight hat-trick at 33.51, before Hand scored his second at 34.34.
Dan Davies broke Emersic's scoring streak with Slough's fourth at 38.11, but the skipper netted his personal fourth at 38.38 to make it 4-5 after 40 minutes.
Davies scored his second two minutes into the third period and Slough retained their two-goal lead until there were just over two minutes left when Walker netted for the home team at 57.56.
Hand called his time-out at 58.27 and four seconds later it was 6-6 thanks to a Robert Lachowicz goal.
Head coach Pete Russell used Slough's time-out with 44 seconds remaining and the teams went to overtime with the visitors 11 seconds into a penalty kill.
The Jets killed the remainder of the Adam Greener penalty and 3.29 in it was Emersic who scored his fifth to secure the game for the visitors.
