DESPITE a late fightback from the Slough Jets they suffered a 4-2 defeat at the Guildford Flames on Sunday night.

They were unable to back up an excellent 7-2 win over the Peterborough Phantoms on Saturday as the hosts were fired up from the start and came flying out of the blocks as Jez Lundin netted the opening period's only goal at 5.53.

Both netminders were forced into making saves as the teams racked up shots which the Flames shaded 13-11 across the first 20 minutes of the game.

Guildford again outshot their opponents in the second period and at 32.21 Gary Clarke doubled up the lead. Just 59 seconds later Milos Melicherik made it 3-0 and left the visitors an uphill task for the final period.

Skipper Blaz Emersic got Slough on the board at 45.23 and with 5.25 remaining Jan Melichar pulled it back to a single goal game and it was very much game on.

Head coach Pete Russell took the visitors' time-out at 57.47 but as Slough pushed for the equalising goal Rob Lamey made the game safe at 59.16.
