THE Slough Jets will be on cloud nine after making a flying start to the campaign with a double victory.

On Saturday they beat local rivals, the Bracknell Bees 9-0 in the best possible start for new head coach Pete Russell who was at the Hive last season as bench coach.

Russell commented: "Bracknell never really showed up, I think we've got more power than them in size. We moved the puck well, played well, they've got a new team and we've got a new team. It's a hard one to judge.

"I don't want to see that happen to Bracknell but it's about our team now."

Claude Dumas, head coach and forward at the Bees remarked: "It was very disappointing. In the second period we played bad hockey.

"We didn't score to get any momentum and then the players stopped working which is bad.

The first period was not full of incident considering it was a big local derby but enetualy the Jerts got on top and took the lead after 14.17 minutes when the pressure told and Zoran Kozic tucked home from close range.

The song, don't upset the rythme, came blasting out of the PA system and that was exactly what the visitors had to do to stay in touch after the first 20 minutes.

However, the result was soon put to bed when the Jets struck twice in 18 second at the beginning of the second period. Kozic could have doubled the advantage but it was well blocked on the line but Dan Davies was on hand to score.

Carl Ambler, who had done well to keep the Bees in the game then gift wrapped Slough their third by passing the puck to Michael Bowman who had no trouble in flicking it past him into the roof of the net.

The Jets did not have to wait much longer to make it 4-0 on 25.31 with another close range goal and the next strike was going to prove crucial.

Import, Jaroslav Cesky then had a goal ruled out for offside when he beat former Bees netminder Gregg Rockman at his snear post and at the beginning of the third smashed the post giving Rockman a welcome shut out on his Jets debut.

Although that brief rally from Bracknell was in vain as the Jets took control with a fifth from as they broke from that incident with Kozic completely his hat-trick.

It was one way traffic from then as the Jets jugganaut could not be stopped with Kozic claiming his fourth before getting into a scrap with Ryan Watt, probably about the only department that the Bees did not finish second best in.

Slough skipper Blaz Emersic was also on target along with another for Davies and one apiece for James Knight and import Peter Jasik.

The perfect start was continued by the Slough Jets as they triumphed 6-4 at last season's treble winning Peterborugh Phantoms.

The home team took the lead just 4.03 into the game through Jason Cassells but Peter Jasik was on hand at 5.31 to level up, finishing off from James Knight. Cassells scored Peterborough's second at 15.33 to give his team the lead at the interval.

Slough started the second period two men down with carry over penalties from the first and James Morgan netted on the two man advantage just 38 seconds into the middle period.

The Jets failed to capitalise on a powerplay but a spell of four on four play saw Knight net at 30.11 to pull back a goal. Jasik chipped in with his second, this one a powerplay goal at 35.55 and Blaz Emersic scored the go ahead goal at 38.37 to swing the lead around by the next interval.
