SLOUGH Jets made it four straight wins in the National Ice Hockey League after a 4-1 home victory against Basingstoke Buffalo.

After a goalless first period, strikes from Timo Lindgren and Harry Harcup gave Slough the advantage at the end of the second stanza, before Liam Underdown and Nathan Darmanin secured the points before the final buzzer.

Blair Dubyk pulled a goal back for Basingstoke with three minutes remaining, but Jets head-coach Lukas Smital believes his side were always in control.

He told the Observer: “I thought we played well and controlled the majority of the game from start to finish. It was a good all-round performance throughout the 60 minutes and we were the better team on the night.

“We did a lot of little things right and benefitted from scoring goals and not letting Basingstoke back into the game.”

The win leaves Slough in seventh position in the South Two table ahead of a trip to Swindon Wildcats 2s in their final game of the regular season on April 1 (7.45pm).

Smital said “Swindon have a good recent record and will be a different team to when we last played them.

“It will be our last game of the regular season before the play-offs so it will be important to perform well.

“Swindon are improving a play a lot of kids who must get experience with game-time with the Wildcats and that can be useful for them.

“We’re now a different team as well so I will not be looking too much into it.”

He added: “We will definitely finish in eighth position at least but that will be confirmed when all the results are in.

“We’re pretty much nailed on for the play-offs now but it’s still up in the air who we will play.”
