MAIDENHEAD secured a 25-17 victory at Marlow in a bad-blooded derby on Saturday.

Maids took the lead at Riverwoods with an early converted try in the corner.

And Marlow were still yet to wake up by the time Maids touched down for a second time after taking advantage of a poor restart kick.

It put the visitors 12-0 up after only six minutes, but Marlow responded immediately when a pass from prop Eddy Smyth put Chris Ellis over in the corner.

It was a tense, hard-fought affair and tempers soon boiled over, resulting in a brawl. Once calm had been restored, Maidenhead kicked a penalty for a 15-5 lead.

But with half time in sight, Marlow got themselves right back in it with a superb try of their own.

Fly-half Will Fulton collected the ball deep in Marlow territory and ghosted past a string of Maids opponents before sending second-row Harry Rodgers over the line.

Fulton's conversion left Marlow trailing by 15-12 at the break.

But their hopes were quickly lifted when a Maids forward was sent off for violent play following an incident that also saw Marlow prop Fe'ao Vunipola sinbinned.

Marlow were quick to take advantage thanks to another superb break by Fulton.

He cut through the Maids defence like a knife through butter before passing to wing Miles Noble who dabbed down in the corner to put the home side 17-15 up and ahead for the first time in the match.

Sadly, that lead was short lived as 14-man Maids drove upfield from the restart before peeling off to score in the corner and regain the lead at 20-17.

Fulton missed a penalty which would have drawn Marlow level then to rub salt into their wound, Maids survived some late pressure before breaking down field to score another try on the counter attack.

The win sent Maids up to fourth in South West 1 East. They entertain leaders Coney Hill this Saturday (2.15pm ko).

Marlow are seventh and travel to sixth-placed Witney on Saturday (2.15pm ko).
