WINDSOR Rugby Club's coaches are going into the second half of the campaign hoping that they can succeed on all fronts through development and enjoyment.

The first team are currently fourth in Southern Counties North, five points adrift of third placed Grove and nine behind leaders Witney.

But the second team, the development XV, are top of Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier A by three points having played a game more than their nearest rivals, Marlow twos.

First team head coach Paul Britton said: "We had a mid-season review with the coaches on Saturday talking about where we can improve.

"We decided not to dwell too long about whether it is still a promotion run but we just want to succeed each week, particularly the development XV and make sure the guys are developing and enjoying their rugby then the results will take care of themselves.

"We are fourth but five points off Grove, we need to take care of our results and just keep an eye on the other results to see if we have a chance. But we must concentrate on ourselves and enjoy the second half of the season."

Windsor are due to host local rivals Slough on Saturday weather permitting.

"I'm going to tow the line and say that we are planning that it will go ahead but that's all we can do at the moment," stated Britton.

"It's difficult for everyone though. I've heard the director of rugby for Wasps (Tony Hanks) saying it is difficult for them so it's especially difficult for junior clubs.

"We've just got to try to keep on top of the fixture list.

"Home Park tends to hold up pretty well in cold weather when the sun gets on it and we will make preparations as we do for every competitive league game.

"It will be another tough fixture against Slough if it does go ahead."

He added: "The development XV had a good fixture against Amersham & Chiltern twos and managed to beat them 53-0 to stay top so that was good.

"We are pleased that the guys are obviously still looking forward to getting back into it after the Christmas break and that was a reflection of it."
