WINDSOR are looking for an improvement on their fourth place finish in the Southern Counties North last season.

Having been relegated the year earlier they had a decent season but promotion was just beyond them.

However, head coach Paul Britton is looking for more from the Home Park side.

"We have had a good pre-season," he said. "The key for us is to better last season.

"The line I have taken with the players is that we want to be in contention come Christmas and that means in the top three. Hopefully we can be there or thereabouts.

"The danger is that you could be complacent and automatically assume that you are going to be better than last year but we are trying to keep them honest because that is the nature of the beast. We have been working very hard."

The squad is very similar to last year with Ed Bell still the skipper and Windsor looking to their impressive youth system.

Britton added: "We have taken the view that we won't go and look at overseas players, we've benefited in the past from the odd wandering Kiwi or Australian who has been in Windsor for a year but what we've tried to do this season is grow our own.

"We've got some good colts coming through and lads who have played in other Windsor teams and they have stepped their game up. It is only fair given their long term commitment to the club that us as coaches have a good look at them.

"We named a squad of 36 players yesterday (Monday) and it's from those 36 that the first team will be chosen from for the foreseeable future.

"It all seems very positive at the moment and we are all excited by the start of the season."

Windsor start with a trip to Aylesbury on Saturday and the coach remarked: "No doubt it will be a tricky game.

"All the teams in this league seem to change significantly from year to year so we've just got to go there and focus on our own game.

"We prefer the running style but we know that come the middle of January when the wind and rain is coming in off the side of the pitch at Grove we will have to change so we've been working on every aspect."
