Rugby

THE successful pre-season preparations continued for Windsor with victory in the Grasshoppers Tournament in west London on the back of a win in a trial match at Kingston.

With 22 players available from the first team squad, Windsor won five consecutive 20 minute games on the trot in glorious August sun, beating two Battersea Ironsides teams, Hampstead and both Grasshoppers teams, with half of the opposition coming from higher leagues.

With matches lasting 20 minutes this proved a good workout for the players, whose ability to be changed in and out of the team and hitting the same level was a pleasing indictment of the squad system at Windsor.

With the three group matches won Windsor progressed to the semi-final and beat a tough Hampstead team 14-0 thanks to some expansive rugby and they then beat the hosts in the final.

First XV squad: Ray Cox, Niall Kidd, Owen Oxlade, Matt Sancto, Dave Allen, Paul Britton, Johnny Hayhurst, Adam Williamson, Liam Smith, Mike Darren, Matt Forsyth, Owen Flisher, James Driscoll, Paul Nunn, Tom Strauss, Alex Harris, Pat Birch, Gary Morgan, James Howard, Ben Corbett, Neal Kennedy.
