ENGLAND fly-half Jonny Wilkinson's last-minute inclusion against Ireland in the Six Nations on Saturday may not have had the desired effect, but Windsor Rugby Club's own Jonny was firing on all cylinders.

Centre Jonny Whitehead scored a try, two conversions and a penalty as Windsor U17s reached the semi-final of the District Shield after a tight 22-20 victory over High Wycombe on Sunday.

Despite facing a team that play a league above them, Windsor defended resolutely and produced some electric three-quarter play for a momentous victory. In the end a missed conversion at the death was the difference between the teams.

Windsor opened the scoring with a move in contention for try of the season. Second-row Jack Foran won the ball at a line-out and allowed scrum-half Tom Bates to feed Ben Tindall at fly-half.

Tindall timed his inside pass with perfection to find Sam Turner, smased through the three-quarter line at pace. The ball was shipped to left-wing Bradley Lema who powered home.

Wycombe hit back with a push-over try and a penalty, but Whitehead levelled the scores at 8-8 with a penalty of his own soon after.

Windsor's next score came when prop Marc Williams combined with number-eight Peter Lewis in the tackle and Wycombe possession was spilled. The ball was hacked forward and Clemance picked up and drove on.

The ball eventually made its way to Whitehead, who evaded the Wycombe centres and combined with Turner to score and convert.

Windsor took a commanding 22-8 lead when some nice footwork took Tindall under the posts.

However, the Wycombe pack hit back with two push-over tries. The first of these was converted and when the second made the score 22-20 the Wycombe kicker had the chance to put his side through to the semi-final - the rules of the tournament state that in the event of a tie victory is awarded to the away team.

Fortunately for Windsor the kick sailed wide and they progress to a semi-final against Saltash.
