WINDSOR Cricket Club began the new Thames Valley Cricket League Division 2a season with victory at rivals North Maidenhead on Saturday.
Captain Majid Khan recorded 37 to help his side to a total of 108 but Windsor, runners-up to Marlow last term, knocked off the runs for the loss of just four wickets.
Skipper Tim Alldis was confident Datchet could launch a title challenge this season but they were unable to beat newly promoted British Airways at the Wally Gage Memorial Ground. The visitors held on for a draw by replying to Datchet's target of 205 with 184-9.
Finally, there was no play between Berkshire rivals Slough 2nds and Finchampstead 2nds due to an unfit ground at Upton Court Park.
Elsewhere, Newly-promoted Burnham Cricket Club kicked off the new Home Counties Division One season on Saturday with a 39-run win against Oxford.
Captain Shaid Nadeem admitted last week his team were under prepared for the start of the new campaign but the Memorial Ground based side recorded an opening day victory thanks to impressive overseas star Aftab Khan.
Last year's Division Two West champions were put into bat by Oxford and set the visitors a target of 174 with Khan producing 35 and Obaid Ullah Sarwar top scoring with 55 in an innings that including five fours and two sixes. Pace bowler Brad Sutherland was the pick of the Oxford attack with figures of 5-65.
Daniel King (28) John Barrett (18) got the visitor's reply off to a good start but when their opening partnership was broken the innings never regained its momentum thanks to Khan's return of 5-38.
In Division Two West, last season's runners-up Slough began their new title challenge with a 107-run win at Aston Rowant.
Bobby Sher's men recorded 216 batting first before restricting the hosts to 109 all out at The Butts Way.
Farnham Royal, however, held on for a losing draw against Gerrards Cross at Duke Lane.
Michael Ready recorded an unbeaten 81 to guide the hosts to 197 while Farnham's opening bowlers Duncan Bradshaw and Javed Khan took 4-18 and 3-45 respectively.
Captain Ollie Clayson made 43 to get Royals reply off to a good start before Khan's unbeaten 34 was enough to hold on for the draw.
