DAVE TARPEY was the hero for Maidenhead United when his four-goal haul helped them to a 4-1 win away at AFC Fylde on Tuesday night.

Tarpey, 28, rewrote the record books last season when he scored 45 goals to help United win the National South title and promotion to the National League.

Fresh from bagging two goals in the 2-1 victory over Hartlepool United on Saturday - Maidenhead's first-ever win in the National League - Tarpey scored four in the success against Fylde, champions of National League North last season.

Tarpey won the penalty that led to the opening goal on 26 minutes after a foul by Fylde captain Josh Langley, who was shown a straight red card by referee Paul Marsden. The United striker slotting in the resulting spot-kick.

The visitors were then awarded a second penalty in the 36th minute for handball inside the box and Tarpey took advantage to double his and Maidenhead's tally for the night.

Ten-man Fylde pulled a goal back before half-time as Lewis Montrose touched in a long free-kick at the back post.

Into the second-half and Fylde midfielder Sam Finley saw his goal disallowed for offside, before Tarpey completed his hat-trick on 58 minutes. The red-hot striker chased a ball over the top, held off a defender and rounded keeper Rhys Taylor to score.

Jake Hyde hit the bar for Maidenhead and Fylde substitute James Hardy saw a shot come back off the post, before Tarpey completed the scoring in the 78th minute.

Slough Town recorded their first win of the season when beating Gosport Borough 5-1 on the South coast.

Summer signing Matt Lench opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute when following up to finish as a Lee Togwell shot was deflected into his path.

Lench turned provider for The Rebels second goal on 27 minutes, his corner was headed in by Chris Flood, the striker left unmarked and making it look easy.

Gosport pulled a goal back four minutes into the second period when Alex Przespolewski took two touches to carry the ball into the box before burying it past keeper Jack Turner.

Slough restored their two-goal advantage just four minutes later after Guy Hollis was hauled down inside the box at a corner. Flood sent Borough keeper Sam Grey the wrong way to convert the penalty with confidence.
