JAKE Parsons declared Windsor FC will be stronger ahead of the new football season - thanks largely to a vigorous pre-season regime.

Manager Keith Scott put his squad through two physically and mentally tough boot camps before the comfortable 5-0 friendly win against Ascot United of the Hellenic Premier Division on Tuesday night.

And midfield star Parsons insists he already feels fitter than 12 months ago and is looking forward to the test of playing on threadbare pitches in the Combined Counties Premier Division.

Speaking exclusively to the Observer Parsons said: "It was nice to kick a football again because we've been doing boot camps the last two Saturdays.

"Once we got the first goal against Ascot we got another four in pretty quick succession."

Parsons bagged the first goal during the five-goal rout over The Yellamen at Bisham Abbey this week before young star Ben Harris came off the bench and helped himself to a hat-trick inside 13 second-half minutes.

Defender Andrew Fagan completed the scoring deep into injury time with the club continuing their summer preparations with a visit from Blue Square Conference South champions Woking this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Parsons, 25, continued: "Woking are a good club with a good set up.

"They ran away with the Conference South last season which is a really hard league, winning it by nine points, .

"They're probably going to come down here and be buzzing, so it's going be tough."

And wide man Parsons - younger brother of captain Ryan - believes Windsor's match fitness will make them serious title contenders this term.

He added: "I don't know about everyone else but I feel fitter now that I've had a proper pre-season - I didn't get one last year because of injury.

"We'll see how much fitter we are. In this league we've got to travel to places where the pitches are heavy and boggy.

"Goals are a big factor but fitness in the last 15-20 minutes is important, we won a lot of games in the last 15-20 minutes year."

The former Burnham man went on: "This season I think there are two or three teams that can win it - us, Guernsey and Wembley - but I'd like to think we'd be good enough to win it.

"We are stronger this season than we were last year, last season was all about building a squad."
