HOLYPORT FC boss Derek Sweetman has set his sights on finishing a 'fantastic' season with a mid-table position.
The newly promoted side currently sit 13th and Sweetman believes eight more points from their remaining 11 fixtures will ensure their place in the Hellenic Premier Division for another season.
"Mid-table is a fantastic achievement considering we are always up against it [financially] in terms of trying to get players in," Sweetman told the Observer.
"Eight points should see us mathmatically safe and I think this time next year we will be better for it.
"I want to finish as high as possible, to finish 11th or 12th in our first season in the Premier Division would be fantastic considering where we have come from."
The Villagers are currently five points behind 11th placed Shrivenham after an improvement in form led to just one defeat in their last six, a crushing 5-0 loss at second placed Oxford City Nomads.
"We've only lost one in six and our form has been very good," Sweetman continued.
"We were up against a very good Oxford side, the best we have played in the league this year, but there is no doubt that the red card to Steve Deverall in the first 15 minutes changed the game."
Holyport landed an incredible treble last season, winning Division One East along with the Challenge and Floodlit cups.
And the Summerleaze village based club can add further silverware to their trophy cabinet this term with upcoming Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy and Supplementary Cup quarter-finals dates booked.
Sweetman added: "We're looking at the Senior Trophy and Supplementary cups as possible bits of silverware.
"We've played Wantage twice already and had two close games.
"The draw for the Supplementary quarter-finals hasn't taken place yet but I'm sure it will be tough."
However, Sweetman has been frustrated by the recent lack of competitive football due to freezing conditions that have gripped the nation.
"It's very frustrating," the Villagers supremo continued.
"We've had a few postponed in the league and the Wantage quarter-final has been postponed three times now.
"We'd like to get that and a couple of the league games out of the way.
"I'm not very confident of the Fairford Town [away, Saturday 3pm] game going ahead with the weather that is forecast. But I hope it's on becuase I'd rather play on a Saturday then travel there on a Tuesday.
APPLICATIONS can now be made for Holyport FC and Boyne Hill Girls & Boys FC's annual football tournament.
The tournament runs on May 12 and 13 at Holyport's Summerleaze Village ground where last year over 120 teams competed.
As usual, BBQ's, ice cream vans and bouncy castles will be available to keep everyone entertained while the football is being played.
