WINDSOR FC boss Keith Scott has heaped praise on his players despite squandering a two-goal lead at Hanworth Villa on Saturday.

The fledgling club led 2-0 at half-time at Rectory Meadow but left with a single point after Laurie Shennan beat man of the match Rob Bullivant for an injury-time equaliser.

The draw, coupled with Guildford City's victory at Banstead Athletic, extends the defending champion's lead at the top of the Combined Counties Premier Division to 11 points.

But the Windsor supremo declared he is delighted that the threadbare sqaud are within touching distance of the championship.

"We still want Guildford to drop points, that hasn't changed," Scott, pictured, told the Observer.

"We've got 16 games to go so there are a lot of points to be won and lost.

"We're still in the fight for the championship so we've got to be pleased with our efffors thus far."

However, the Windsor maestro admitted a 2-2 draw at Hanworth was probably the right result last weekend.

"We were 2-0 up when Jake Parsons hit the bar and I think at 3-0 it would've been dead and buried," Scott continued.

"I just felt we didn't really stop their supply in terms of them launching the ball into the box.

"Rob Bullivant pulled off some fantastic saves to keep the score at 2-1 but they scored again in the 91st minute.

"If I'm honest, I think a draw was a fair result. In the first half we could've been three or four up and in the second we could've conceded three of four."

Scott went on to suggest this season's title race is not too dissimilar to Windsor & Eton's successful 2009/10 season when they beat AFC Totton by a single point.

He added: "Windsor & Eton had a situation with AFC Totton where we were 15 points clear and they had five games in hand. I was convinced they wouldn't win them but they won every single one.

"You can be in such a commanding position and then all of a sudden you're not and I still think there are a lot of points to be won and lost.

"I'm convinced over the course of the season there will be lots of twists and turns when you don't expect them. You've just got to go out and win one game at a time.

"If we win all of our remaining games and beat Guildford and they win their remaining games to win the league by two points there is not a lot we can do about that."

Windsor went on to book a place in the Bucks & Bucks Senior Trophy semi-final at Abingdon United with a 2-1 extra-time victory over Newport Pagnell Town at Stag Meadow on Monday.

Young star Robert Lazarczuk put the hosts ahead in the third minute and Ryan O'Toole produced the winner in the first period of extra-time.

Windsor return to league action on Saturday when hosting Molesey FC (3pm).
