CLEAN sheets are the vital ingredient to Windsor FC supremo Keith Scott's plan to dethrone Guildford City at the top of the Combined Counties Premier Division.
His theory evolves around the defending champions and current leaders not slipping up and admitted that the fledgling club may have to settle for second despite winning all of their remaining games this season.
"I can see it being a shoot-out and a question of anybody slipping up, and we've got to work on the theory that Guildford won't," Scott told the Observer.
"Windsor and Guildford are the best two sides in this league and we've proved that week in week out.
"Clean sheets are so important in this league because I believe on any given day any team can beat anybody as you get very random results."
Scott's side recorded their seventh straight league win with victory over Farnham Town on Saturday but fell nine points off the pace, with two games in hand, after Guildford won 5-1 at Sandhurst Town in midweek.
The fact that Windsor may have to win all of their remaining fixtures to win the title is testament to Guildford's continuity, according to Scott.
"We might have to win every game to win the league, it's as simple as that," Scott continued.
"We've got to approach every game in that way because in fairness to Guildford, and I said this at the very beginning of the season, the team that finishes above them in the league will go close to winning this championship.
"They won it on merit last year but never got promoted and teams can either go one of two ways.
"They can either feel sorry for themselves and do nothing the following season or they can regroup and strengthen and that is what Guildford have done. They will not drop many points this season, that is a fact."
However daunting the longevity of the task ahead, Scott, who led the now defunct Windsor & Eton to Southern Division One glory during a similar title race with AFC Totton in season 2009/10, outlined the importance of taking each game as it comes.
He added: "I'm not going to think about that long term, we've won Guildford's won, and we go to Saturday which is Hanworth and try to win that game."
Hanworth have been a mixed bag this season, impressing during an FA Cup victory over Southern Division one Central leaders Slough Town and putting seven past Badshot Lea last week but suffering recent defeats to Ash United, Egham Town and Guildford.
"Hanworth's FA Cup and Vase runs have caught up with them because they were in a very strong position in the league if they won their games in hand," Scott went on.
"But you've got to win them and it's always better to have the points on the board.
"Having said that they are a dangerous outfit. They've got two strikers who are decent and they can finish. A lot of their game revolves around them getting the ball in dangerous areas and it's important we keep them quite.
"It will be tough but if we are good enough we will win the game. If we don't perform then obviously we are going to find it difficult."
Scott added: "With a little bit more luck in front of goal we possibly would've won the last two by six or seven.
"You've got to keep clean sheets, that is the most important thing and you've got to keep winning."
Windsor FC's Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy quarter-final tie against Newport Pagnell Town, abandoned on Monday because of a frozen pitch at Stag Meadow, has been re-arranged for January 23 with a 7:45pm kick-off.
