Windsor FC avoid 'travesty' in Farnham Town win

WINDSOR FC boss Keith Scott declared it would have been a 'travesty' if Farnham Town had got anything out of their visit to Stag Meadow on Saturday.
Scott's side were unfortunate not to take more than a two-goal lead into half-time after Farnham's goal had led a charmed life, with shots striking the post, crossbar and being cleared off the line in the early exchanges.
And the Windsor supremo admitted his frustration at not bagging a third goal although the hosts eventually cruised to a seventh consecutive Combined Counties Premier Division win.
"It's crazy really, we score early on and within five or six minutes after that we could've been four or five nil up," Scott told the Observer.
"Farnham just committed men forward in the second half so they didn't really play with any shape. It was just a matter of let's get the ball, get it forward and accept that we are going to leave ourselves exposed.
"The danger of that from their point of view is if you concede a third you get four, five or six.
"The danger from our point of view is we have to be very careful not to then commit men forward, they nick a goal and all of a sudden they are back in it."
After Andrew Fagan broke the deadlock in the second minute and Michael Chennells doubled the advantage midway through the half, Windsor's biggest threat came from the temporarily failing floodlights rather than their opposition on the field.
"Nine times out of 10 the game is over when it's 2-0 at half-time," Scott continued.
"So it was important to keep our shape with two banks of four, and say right, you can play but you're not going to play through us and when we get it we've got to explode quickly.
"The second half was probably more frustrating because we hit the post again and had another one cleared off the line.
"Their goalkeeper pulled off a very good save from Jake Parsons and I just thought we needed that third goal but we didn't get it.
"It was a bit like Mole Valley last week, if they'd have got anything out of the game it would've been a travesty.
"But having said that, that is not what football is about. You don't win games by dominating play, you win games if you score goals and in the end we ran out comfortable winners."
