JIDE Ogunbote's late Basingstoke Town equaliser denied Maidenhead United a much-needed consecutive league win on Boxing Day.
Having beaten Salisbury City in their last league fixture before Christmas, the Magpies would have moved seven points clear of the Blue Square Conference South relegation zone with victory at York Road.
But substitute Ogunbote's 74th-minute leveller cancelled out Alex Wall's strike on the hour mark to keep Maidenhead locked in a relegation battle.
The draw, however, maintains the Magpies fine recent record against the Dragons, now unbeaten in 11 of the last 13 meetings, with the two sides set to clash again in the league at The Camrose on Saturday (2pm).
Maidenhead goalkeeper Billy Lumley was at his brilliant best to keep out Tim Sills and Bradley Bubb in the pick of the first-half action.
The visitors' were then denied a penalty kick when Sills appeared to be held back inside the area.
Basingstoke keeper Ashley Bayes was taken to hospital via ambulance shortly before the break following an aerial collision with United captain Mark Nisbet.
Wall eventually broke the deadlock on the hour mark when converting a loose ball from a tight angle after closing down sub keeper Chay Morris' delayed kick.
The impressive Adam Mekki was unfortunate not to restore parity soon after when rattling the hosts' crossbar after a superb solo run.
However, Basingstoke did get their equaliser 16 minutes from time when Ogunbote headed home Toby Little's cross.
