Holyport's losing run ends with derby win

HOLYPORT FC ended a miserable run of eight league games without a win with a shock 1-0 victory at Flackwell Heath on Tuesday.
The Villagers winless streak stretched back to October 22 and saw them slide towards a relegation battle in the Hellenic Premier Division.
However, Matt Rolfe's first-half strike gave the newly- promoted club a much needed victory against a high-flying Flackwell side.
With both clubs fielding weakened sides due to the Christmas holidays the local derby started in an inevitably lacklustre maner.
However, the contest came to life with half an hour played when Ben Sturgess' free-kick was flicked back across the Flackwell goal and and met by Rolfe, who used his thigh to direct the ball into the back of the net.
Flackwell dominated possession for the rest of the opening period and had a legitimate claim for a penalty waved away just before the break.
The hosts' chances of finding an equaliser after half-time were dashed when Nathan Poulton was shown a straight red card for stamping on Holyport defender Rob Crawford.
The Villagers win over their local rivals moves them up to 12th in the Hellenic Premier, just a single point and position behind their next opponents Shrivenham.
Port welcome Shrivy to Summerleaze on New Year's Eve (1pm) before travelling to ninth-placed Thame United on January 2 (1pm).
