WINDSOR and Eton boss Dave Mudge is confident his players can bounce back from their ‘appalling’ 4-0 home defeat by Cirencester by taking the prized scalp of Leamington this Saturday (3pm ko).

Royalists opened their Premier Division campaign by snatching a 1-1 draw at Tiverton Town last weekend thanks to a late Michael Chennells equaliser.

But their confidence took a big knock when they crashed to a heavy loss at Stag Meadow on Tuesday night.

Now, with little time to recover before they host a strong Leamington outfit, Mudge admitted: “As good as we were on Saturday, we were awful on Tuesday.

“You cannot give teams at this level a two-goal start or miss your chances, we have to learn.

“It was very disappointing from everyone, but lets see if we can make it better and put it behind us.

“We were appalling and gifted Cirencester four goals so hopefully we can put together a performance that we need to at the weekend.”

However, that will be easier said than done against Saturday’s visitors Leamington.

“I think they will be a top four side come the end of the season so it couldn’t be tougher,” warned Mudge. “We are a young side on a steep learning curve.

“On Tuesday it was men against boys at times. Then when we had opportunities to get back into we couldn’t take out chances.

“We’re a young side but Saturday is an ideal opportunity to bounce back against one of the big guns.”

Mudge could now bring in more reinforcements for what looks like being a testing campaign ahead.

“I’ve got to bring the chairman up to date with players,” he explained. “I’ve held discussions in case we need to bring someone in. If players leave you always need ideas about who to replace them with. But I’m very happy with what we’ve got.”

Royalists are also in league action next Tuesday night when they travel to Oxford City (7.45pm ko).

Meanwhile, first-team coach Graham Malcolm has left Windsor to join Beaconsfield, and Mudge said: “Graham had the opportunity to join Beaconsfield as first team coach and we wish him all the best.”
