SLOUGH Town keeper Mark Scott has issued a positive update in his recovery from a broken neck.

Scott, 26, underwent surgery to repair his shattered C6 vertebrae. A part of his hip bone was taken to fuse a metal plate to his neck.

He suffered the horrific injury during The Rebels’ 3-2 win against Basingstoke Town back in March.

The injury is now stable and the Slough stopper has been given the all clear to start light exercise.

“I’ve been approved for light exercise, driving and a return to work,” Scott told the Observer. “It is still a little tough to turn my neck to see my blindspot, but it’s not unsafe to drive.

“I did a bit of biking on Monday which was tough and I was still sore on Tuesday morning. It went okay, but there are a few aches and pains. My neck aches a bit but I’m trying to remember everything.

“But, the main thing is I’m out of the house, good for driving, and back to work I suppose.”

He continued: “I’m going to St George’s Park for intense rehab in July.

“To see their specialists would be such a valuable experience for me towards getting fit again.

“Once you are a member of the PFA you are a member for life, so I knew it was available to me.

“I should be able to come back in October-time all being well.

Commenting on The Rebels’ 1-0 defeat away at Leamington in the play-off semi-final, Scott said: “Obviously I was disappointed, all the lads were. Our target from the start was to get promoted. I was disappointed for everyone involved.”

Over £6,000 was raised via Crowdfunder to help Scott and his family during the recovery period, and the keeper is now fundraising for London Frame Football after a visit earlier this month.

Scott said: “I enjoyed seeing London Frame Football, a team for young footballers that use walker frames.

“During the warm up a parent asked me over for a photo.

“Their kid gave me a hug and my heart melted a little bit, so I want to help them with fundraising and raise awareness.”
