LYNCHPIN FC have won the Norfolkian Senior Cup this season following a 4-1 victory over Richings Park at York Road.

Lynchpin saw dreams of a historic quadruple go up in smoke after defeat to Thame in the Slough Town Senior Cup final last month.

However, team boss Riley Smith and his players set the record straight by lifting a first piece of silverware last Thursday evening.

Lynchpin made a good start and the opening 15 minutes saw them retain possession of the ball well and create a couple of half-chances.

The deadlock was broken through Dean Papali after a mistake by the Richings Park keeper let him through and the striker coolly slotted the ball home past the defenders on the goal line.

Lower-league Richings Park then got more of a foothold in the game and made it difficult for Lynchpin to break them down. Stuart Swift was highly influential in picking out passes which caused problems for the defence.

Park levelled the scores after a free-kick by Swift was punched by the Lynchpin keeper, but only to the feet of an attacker to knock the ball in.

Lynchpin were forced to make a change before half-time after an injury to influential centre back Matthew Smith, which did not help their cause. A second change was also forced early on in the second half.

Chances for both teams were few and far between with no real openings before Lynchpin man-of-the-match Alex Simmonds forced the Park keeper into a brilliant save, tipping the ball away from the top corner.

Into extra-time and the contest opened up more as legs started to tire. Luckily for Lynchpin, substitute Josh Christopher, who himself was not fully fit, managed to open up the back four when he got to the touchline and curled in a pinpoint cross for Papali to guide in with his head.

Richings Park then had a player sent off quite harshly for dissent, and the referee started to brandish cards for basic fouls which meant the game was interrupted frequently.

The Premier Division outfit went 3-1 ahead after a delightful lob from 20 yards from Christopher.

Eventually the referee evened up the numbers by sending off Brady Robinson for a foul that both sides felt was harsh and probably only warranted a yellow card.

Stuart Moulder then made the cup safe with a brilliant half-volley into the bottom corner.

The two clubs are due to lock horns again this week in the semi-finals of the League Cup.
