BRAYBROOKE have caused a major shock in East Berkshire Division Three after a 2-0 win at Richings Park Reserves on Saturday.

Richings Park welcomed Braybrooke to Wellesley Avenue for a top-versus-bottom fixture, with many expecting the home team to extend their lead at the top of the pile.

However, a surprise win for the visitors mean they move off the foot of the table, with Richings Park still only a point ahead of Iver Heath Rovers Reserves in second place.

Conditions were not ideal for either team with the pitch not particularly conductive to attractive football due to the ongoing rain.

With neither keeper having a memorable save to make in the first half it looked as if the game was going to match the dreary conditions overhead.

The best chance fell to Braybrooke as Tom McCann volleyed over from close range after great work on the right wing from James Gregory.

However, around five minutes into the second period the away team managed to carve out a clean chance and open the scoring.

A throw-in routine between Chris Gengasamy and Nick Kempton led to a speculative direct ball forwards which evaded both Richings Park central defenders.

McCann was left with a one-on-one chance and duly slotted the ball to the right of the keeper.

The advantage was then doubled 15 minutes later when Braybrooke hit their hosts on the break with a swift counter-attacking move.

Kempton found Rohan Varma on the edge of his own half and he followed with a mazy run, beating four players before cutting in from the left and placing his shot across the keeper.

It was a truly stunning effort that brought some class to a game where conditions had minimised the quality.

Braybrooke held strong late on to record only their second league win of the season.

In the Premier Division, Windsor Reserves suffered their heaviest defeat of the season with a disastrous defensive performance against title-chasing Chalvey (WMC) Sports, losing 7-2.

Chalvey made the breakthrough as the makeshift Windsor backline switched off which allowed a striker to sneak in and head home past keeper Moiz Rana.

Before the visitors could settle Chalvey doubled the advantage. Again Windsor failed to pick up from a set-piece and Sports were gifted an easy goal.

The away team were not helping themselves at the back and more mistakes lead to two further goals as Chalvey went into a four-nil lead at the break.

Windsor regrouped at half-time and made some tactical changes. They were the better team in the second period and had an Owen Richardson goal ruled out for offside.

As they went chasing a goal, massive gaps were left at the back and the strong Chalvey attack made them pay with a fifth goal, a simple finish with the defence all at sea.

Windsor got a goal back when a nice move involving substitute Nash Mohammed put through Nabil Douhi, who squared for Cheyenne Cripps to score into an empty net.

However, they again fell asleep as the home side made it 6-1 moments later.

The visitors pulled another goal back as Cripps turned provider when his corner was touched home by Douhi.

Chalvey had the final say on the game as more poor Windsor defending saw a free header converted.
