NEW Windsor Social Club have been eliminated from the Berks & Bucks Sunday Intermediate Cup after a 3-1 defeat to Finchampstead Athletic.

The Thames Valley Sunday League representatives travelled to Finchampstead, runners-up last season, for a quarter-finals tie.

New Windsor started the brighter with good possession in the early stages but two strikes from current Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth 10 minutes before half-time gave Finchampstead a two-goal cushion.

The away team came out for the second period again looking the more likely to score the next goal and it came on the hour through a direct corner from Scott Jackson.

New Windsor then squandered good chances to level the tie through Ricky Saunders and Tom Hartridge.

Finchampstead then extended their lead late on in the match as the Windsor-based team again looked to draw level.

The tie ended 3-1 and New Windsor will feel hard done by to be going out of the competition.

The difference in the end was the professionalism and work rate of Finchampstead striker Ainsworth.

Maidenhead Crown took advantage of the fact that Division Two title rivals John 86 were missing a lot of regular players to ease to a 10-0 victory.

It was a one-sided match from start to finish with the Crown keeper only having one save to make at Clewer Recreation Ground.

Maidenhead started with a good tempo and soon had the opportunity to go ahead when they were awarded a penalty for handball inside the box.

Steven Eaton took the kick but blazed the ball high over the bar. He later redeemed himself by scoring five goals.

The first of the five goals came when the deadlock was broken on 20 minutes, a scrambled finish but Eaton battled well to get to the ball.

Ten minutes before the break, The Crown went two goals ahead. James Murdoch with a clever finish from a tight angle – his 12th goal of the season.

John 86 simply gave up midway through the second period once Maidenhead had gone four goals ahead.

Eaton managed to score a further four goals in the half, taking his tally for the season to 23 goals.

His brother, Kenny Eaton also scored three times, and Matthew Hillier got on the scoresheet from close range.

The match became more of a training exercise a times towards the end because the hosts simply lost interest and were well beaten, but you can only beat what is put in front of you.

Also in Division Two, Shepherds Hut took on rock bottom Langley Hornets and recorded their biggest-ever win, a 10-0 victory in Eton Wick.

Craig Kelly was the star on show with five goals, with Jack Tyson, Josh Murray, Ryan Pitcher, Luke Fogarty and Jake Quantrill all finding the net in a near perfect performance.

The goal of the game came from Cam Nealon moving the ball to Jon Brennan who flicked out out to Quantrill.

He whipped the ball in for Kelly to nod his second, the Huts third after Tyson and Kelly had opened the scoring.

Quantrill then added a fifth goal before half-time.

Kelly added more to the tally before Fogarty scored his second screamer in as many weeks from 25 yards.

Pitcher then bent a cross over the keeper’s head, and shortly after Murray got his goal after a tireless performance.
