WINDSOR CC's chances of winning Division 2A of the Thames Valley Cricket League were dealt a cruel blow on Saturday when rain forced the early abandonment of their top of the table clash with Marlow at Higginson Park.
Marlow were 16-1 after eight overs of play when adverse weather forced a premature end to precedings leaving Windsor 25 points behind the leaders with just two matches remaining.
"There is a slight chance we can still do it but it is very unlikely now," bemoaned captain Adam Weston.
"Mathematically it is still possible but it is very disappointing. Barring a miracle it looks like it's over."
Windsor can only win promotion to Division One now with wins against Eversley this weekend and Datchet on September 3, and if Marlow lose both of their remaining fixtures.
"We will go into the game against Eversley with a win at all cost attitude and play our strongest possible side, but it's very unlikely we'll win the division now," continued Weston.
Looking ahead to Marlow's chances of remaining in the top flight of TVL cricket next season Weston added: "They have a strong batting line-up and a couple of very good spinners but will need to strengthen in the seam department if they are to stay up in Division One next year."
