LONG-SERVING skipper Mark George was satisfied with his side's, 'solid performance' against Hayes last Saturday which saw Datchet go third in the Division 2A table.

The 41-year-old who has been playing at the club since he was only nine years old said: "We had everybody back for this game after seven had missed our defeat to Finchampstead 2nds the week before.

"We bowled really well early on and could have had them out for 70 or 80, but in the end I think they were about 100 short (on 147) as we could have kept going to about 250.

"We batted sensibly and it was a straight forward win in the end."

Speaking about Adan Jones and Tim Alldis, who both hit half-centuries, George continued: "They're good players. We tend to bat quite low, at about seven or eight and I think we're always confident of scoring 150 runs at least."

On the team's season as a whole, the captain added: "We've enjoyed this season. A few batsmen, including myself, have needed to score more runs. Our main run-getter Thomas Jones has been very good but a couple of our main bowlers from the past few years haven't been available.

"If we finish third in the end, we'll have done well but we could have done better. There's been two or three games we should have won so I guess it is sort of a 'nearly' season.

"We've got the rest of the top four to play, and if we win the toss we could finish well, depending how we play.

"It would be disappointing to finish 4th or 5th."

"The toss is key at this time of year, and everyone bats first if they get the choice because of the extra points. I think we should play 50 overs, more like ODI cricket, then we would see some better games," George declared

Datchet play North Maidenhead this coming weekend and George concluded: "On our day we can beat anyone. If we win the toss and bat first they'll struggle, although it would be difficult if they bat first."
