CAPTAIN Adam Weston insists Windsor CC cannot afford to drop any more points this season if they want to achieve promotion from Division 2A of the Thames Valley Cricket League.
After an eight-run defeat to local rivals Slough 2nds at Upton Court Road on Saturday, Weston thought the team's promotion prospects were over, but admits he was surprised to see leaders Marlow lose to Finchampstead 2nds.
Nabil Shah's 58 helped Slough 2nds set a target of 184, and in reply Kristan Baumgartner hit 53 before Windsor were bowled out for 176.
Slough's Haider Bhatti finished with figures of 4-7, with Shah claiming 4-81.
Weston told The Observer: "We got ourselves closer than we deserved to be having been nine for 140 at one stage.
"They really dominated the game in the second half with their bowling.
"I was really surprised to see Marlow lose to Finchampstead (Marlow lost by 25 runs). We thought it was a far-gone conclusion when we got off the field."
Windsor are currently second in the division, 25 points behind Marlow, and visit the league leaders on August 20.
Weston added: "If we can get ourselves into a situation where there is just one game in it, then you never know but we certainly cannot afford to drop any more points."
