CENTURIES from Tim Alldis and and Luke Shepherd helped inspire Division 2a leaders Datchet to a convincing win over Royal Ascot.

Datchet made 290-6 but were in trouble at 31-3 before Alldis and Shepherd stepped up.

Alldis smacked 149, including 14 fours and nine sixes, and Shepherd 100 not out as the pair put on 237 for the fourth wicket before declaring after 48 overs.

However, Ascot faltered in the reply, being skittled for 145 as the wicket deteriorated. Skipper Nick Tilley picked up two early wickets but it was James Dick that did the damage, claiming 7-47.

"It was another convincing win but it sounds a lot easier than what is was," commented Tilley.

"We were 31-3 then Luke Shepherd and Tim Alldis put on over 200 to set the scene. The wicket isn't great at Ascot and I thought 180 would be a good score. It was a good test but Tim and Luke batted really well but gave chances that luckily Royal Ascot didn't take.

"The ball was misbehaving and we were confident that was going to be enough. We executed our plans well as bowlers and James Dick bowled very well."

Datchet still lead the way having gained maximum points but they are only two ahead of Fleet with Eversley only a further four behind them in an exciting title race.

"Everyone is winning at the moment so it makes for interesting cricket," remarked the captain.

"It's very tight at the top so you keep having to play positive cricket and go for maximum points."

Datchet host second-bottom Beaconsfield 2s on Saturday who need the points for differing reasons and are without some heavy artillery in the batting department as Adam and Tom Jones are missing and Kyrgiakos Flouditis has played his last game of the season as he has gone travelling.

Tilley added: "We are without a few people for the game but so long as we execute our plans we will be confident of winning. As with any game though we will have to be at our best."
