WINDSOR captain Wes Nichols praised his bowlers for their performance in the 12-run victory over Cove in Division One.

Windsor bowled out the opposition for 151 thanks to some excellent work by the bowlers to secure the win after a stubborn performance with the bat put 163 runs on the board.

Wes Nichols' side were missing key players through injury but youngsters such as Nick Borland, Vishal Nair, George Gould and Ben Harris stepped up to the plate and helped their side to the win.

They struggled for runs early on before Mark Huggins came to the crease and put in a battling performance to notch the top score of 61. Borland also put on a useful 15 right at the end before he was dismissed by Stan Marisa. Steve Audsley was Cove's best bowler, finishing up with figures of 4-27.

Skipper Nichols was pleased that his side came back from a difficult start to reach a competitive total and said: "Cove bowled really well and they're known for a good seam attack.

"We were reduced to 90-8 but Huggins and Borland batted really well and we managed to come through the other side. I was always confident that 160 was enough."

Opening left-hander Borland also took three wickets and tore through the Cove middle order. Nichols added: "There was some genuine fast bowling. He really had the middle order on the back foot. He put us on the path to victory.

"We are a very strong bowling side and we were too strong for them. We had the variety that they didn't. The seam attack bowled very well and we took all our chances and at this level you need to do that."

Nichols' side travel to league leaders Kew on Saturday hoping for another good performance. He said: "They are the team to beat. We are not really concerned with who we play, we're just concerned with the performance.

"If we bowl like we have done we should be able to do ourselves proud."
