AN OUTSTANDING century from Jaydeep Bhatti helped an in-form Thame Town to a 95-run victory over Windsor in Oxfordshire on Sunday.

Windsor were relegated into the Thames & Chilterns Second Division at the end of last season and were looking to get their bid for promotion back to division one off to a winning start.

Bhatti (115) was in no mood to let the visitors get off to a good start and the boundaries soon started to flow.

Midway through the innings a score of 300-plus looked likely but Umar Malik (2-43) and Mark Lines (3-47) helped restrict the hosts to 242-7 after 40 overs.

Kris Baumgartner's quick fire 41 got Windsor's run chase off to a good start but when he was caught off the bowling of Higgs a win was increasingly unlikely.

Alex Haynes (21), Mohammed Alam (22) and Jordan Thompson (22) offered some resistance but could not prevent a relatively comfortable victory for Thame, who were recording their second league win this season after defeating North Maidenhead by two runs on the opening day.

Stand-in captain Umar Malik said: "We were probably not the strongest Windsor CC side playing. We were one or two players short and a couple of guys were away. We thought we were a batting side today but didn't play to our potential. We just under-performed generally I think.

"It's the first league game we have played and there is no need for alarm bells at the moment. We are still waiting for players to come back from university and exams, and as soon as that is done we will have some really good players back."

Windsor are back in Thames Valley League Division One action on Saturday at Thatcham Town after having a home clash with Basingstoke & NH cancelled.
