WINDSOR skipper Wes Nichols insisted he "loved ever minute" of the club's debut match in Thames Valley Division One despite a five wicket home defeat by Kew.

Newly-promoted Windsor's made a modest 155 with the bat having lost their last five wickets for a mere 30 runs in their first game at this level.

And though Kew were made to sweat, they got home on 156-5 in the 44th over.

But Nichols believes his side will benefit from the experience: "We won Division 2 by 78 points last season but Division One is far superior," he declared.

"We need to test ourselves against the best and while we were disappointed to lose it was a great experience, I loved every minute."

Windsor were put in and seemed well placed thanks to a 65-run stand between Nichols and 17-year-old George Gould.

But Gould went for a fine 46 and Nichols was run out for 34 sparking a Windsor collapse.

Kew, while never dominant, always had wickets in hand and 59 from David Lowe led the visitors to victory.

"We made Kew work hard for the win but we were probably 50 runs short," admitted Nichols. "Kew are a very good side at this level and we face another tough game on Saturday at Maidenhead and Bray."

Windsor's bowling attacking will be strengthened by the return of Berkshire 2nds bowler Nick Ballard and Kiwi Jordan Thompson.
