WINDSOR'S bowling attack has been highly praised so far this campaign and rightly so but it was their batting that shone through last Saturday.

There have been question marks raised over their performance with the willow this year but in truth, they haven't had to chase too many big scores as they have been crowned champions of the Thames Valley League Division 2a.

Against Finchampstead's second XI, they had to knock off an impressive total which they duly did as Bevan Malloch came to the party in some style.

Finch made 260 but thanks to an unbeaten 77 from Malloch, Windsor enjoyed a three wicket triumph.

"The doubters that don't rate our batting were wrong with what we've done there," said captain Wes Nichols.

"Bevo (Malloch) has been injured a fair bit this season but he's certainly the best finisher we have at the club if not the best in Division 2a.

"He can adapt his game as needs be, whether it is pushing the ones and twos or going big and he did everything - on the back of him we've managed to get the win."

Nichols remarked: "We've shown we have gone through a metamorphisis with how our batting has gone this year.

"Although we do rely on five blokes to score our runs - myself, Ollie Birch, Mark Huggins, Adam Weston and Bevo. If one of us can get a good score we will get 200 week in, week out.

"The lower order hasn't scored enough runs and I think we might have to shake things up a bit if we are going to score the runs that we will need in div one next year."
