RAIN washed away Windsor"s hopes of extending their lead at the top of the league as their match at second placed Basingstoke & North Hants" second XI was abandoned.

Windsor did gain more points but were on top at the time the match was called off and could be left to rue the weather.

The visiotrs made a fine start with Michael Gould hitting 58 and Ollie Birch 48 but the drizzle turned to sleet and the ball starting seaming around everywhere as Windsor lost six wickets for 35 runs.

However, after a while the ball got waterlogged and difficult to bowl with so Adam Weston was able to take advantage with an unbeaten 50 and was well supported by Jon San Jose with a mature 33 not out and Tom Hartridge 23. Windsor were able to post 229-7 and were in charge early on in the reply.

Wes Nichols (3-28) knocked over the top-order, supported by Ben Harris (1-10) and Windsor were confident they could secure another 25 point win but with the constant drizzle the umpires drew proceedings to a halt with the hosts on 68-4 so they had to settle for 12 points with Basingstoke gaining seven.
