WINDSOR suffered their first defeat in eight games after being thrashed by Datchet but still remain top of Thames Valley league Division 2a.

'It"s never good to be done by 130 runs but saying that we"ve had a really good run,' commented skipper Wes Nichols.

'This result has been coming for three or four weeks, we"ve got it out of the way but we"ve got to take heed of it and move into the second half of the season.'

When asked if Windsor can remain top, Nichols replied: 'Not on the back of that batting performance.

'Now that our underbelly has been exposed, sides will have a look at that and know how to play against us. We need to come up with our own game plan of how to deal with it.

'We need to be resilient enough to move forward and adapt. Not just the top four or six to get runs but the lower-order as well, we need to play for 52 overs, we just gifted them the 25 points as we folded.'

Earlier in the campaign, Nichols has been critical of his side"s batting but they have got away with it thanks to their sensational bowling and will be looking for a reaction tomorrow (Saturday) at Basingstoke & North Hants" second XI who are second behind Windsor.

'I"m hoping for a reaction,' he remarked. 'Consistency is the key to winning the league.'

Datchet moved third with the derby triumph and Tilley will be looking to build on the excellent win at the weekend when they host Eversley but the captain predicted that Windsor will bounce back.

'They (Windsor) are a good side and I expect them to continue to do well,' said Tilley.

'They probably had a bit of an off day and we played well but it"s a win and it"s always nice to beat Windsor. Basingstoke lost as well and it has brought us and a few teams back into it. I imagine it (the title race) will run to the wire.

'We are fairly inconsisent with availability. We struggle each week but if we can get our best team out I"m sure we would be up there.'
