SLOUGH recorded their first win of the new season when beating Great & Little Tew by nine wickets at Upton Court Road on Saturday.

The home side won the toss and took advantage of the conditions to restrict Great & Little Tew to 155-8 from their allotted 50 overs.

Shaan Khan was the pick of the Slough bowlers with his figures of 3-24, while Andy Harris (51*) top scored for the visitors.

The hosts lost just one wicket (Nabi Shah, 22) in their run chase and closed on 159-1 after 38.2 overs for the victory.

Fahim Qureshi top scored with 74* and Lloyd Paternott finished uneaten on 53, while Joe Thomas (1-12) performed best with the ball for Great & Little Tew.

“It was a good result,” Slough skipper Sher told the Observer. “We were quite fortunate to win the toss because it rained a little and the pitch was always going to do something early in the morning with overcast conditions.

“We bowled in the right areas and managed to restrict them to a small total. All the bowlers chipped in with wickets.

“I was confident of chasing it down but we had to make sure people produced a professional innings and not think it is too easy a total.

“Nabil attacked from ball one and put the pressure on, then Fahim and Lloyd batted sensibly and finished the game off.”

He added: “After last week, when we didn’t bat well, on a tougher track the boys showed that if they apply themselves they can do well with the bat.”

Slough host Oxford, promoted as runners-up in Division Two last season, this Saturday.

Sher said: “In their first game Oxford had a good win and they nearly beat High Wycombe last week.

“They’ve spent many years in the Premier League and have recruited well, so it will be another tough game.”
