SUKH Dhillon believes that Stoke Green do not know when they are beaten after recording an incredible sixth win on the bounce on Saturday.

Stoke have shot to the top of Thames Valley Division One and their purple patch continued on Saturday with a 37-run home win against Falkland.

Dhillon and his team lead the chasing pack by a healthy 25 points as the season reaches its half-way stage, and the skipper has warned rivals Stoke are still to hit top form.

“We just don’t know when we’re beaten at the moment and that’s good,” Dhillon explained to the Observer. “To win our last six shows we belong in this league and can compete with the bigger clubs as well.

“I still don’t believe we are playing at 100 per cent because our batting has not clicked, but when that does happen winning will become easier and a lot less stressful. Our batting is still to come together but when we get the runs we deserve it will bring confidence.

“I’m not worried about over-confidence because we just have fun as a team. Morale is our biggest weapon. We’ve been confident in every game and there’s no reason why we can’t take that into the last few matches of the season.

“We’re taking it game-by-game at the moment because I never thought we would win all of the last six. I would’ve been happy with three. We just go into each game trying to do all the basics right.”

Saud Ahmed (23), Zulfi Butt (21*) and Fahad Masood (16) were the only batsman to reach double figures as Stoke were bowled out for 113 in 47.3 overs. Paul Jenkins (2-15) was the pick of the Falkland bowlers.

“I’m always worried when we get a low score because it only takes one decent knock for it to be chased down,” Dhillon stressed.

“We were 60-7 at one stage so it was about picking up as many points as we could because I thought we were going to lose.

“I think 113 was a low score at home so we needed to get our hands down and give it our all. We had a team talk and agreed we would go for it.”

Dhillon need not have worried though as Falkland were dismissed for just 76 in reply. Sajid Aziz (6-37) and Butt (4-29) left the visiting batsman in a spin with only Craig Williams (20) and Hamza Riazuddin (12) offering any real resistance.

Dhillon commented: “We showed togetherness to grind out a decent score then get Falkland to 36-9 to put us in the driving seat. They lost a few wickets early on which settled us down.

“Sajid and Zulfi are the best spin bowlers out there and a lot of teams struggle against them. A lot of batsman can’t play spin and those two are the best in this league.

“There was some good bowling but poor batting from the opposition. Falkland played way too many shots against a turning ball.

“It was a good game of cricket and I’m chuffed with the result, but I feel like we got away with another one. My feelings were that of relief because I didn’t think it would happen.”

Stoke Green host Boyne Hill on Saturday (1pm start) with the visitors up to sixth position in the table after a 34-run win against Chesham.

Hamid Riaz was the star on show after his century and 68 from Muhammad Irfan helped the home team to 213-6 from 52 overs. Riaz smacked 14 boundaries in his innings and the pair put on 168 runs for the fourth wicket.

Ziya Mohamed then claimed a five-wicket haul (5-45) as Chesham were bowled out for 179 after one ball of the 46th over. Zanoxolo Kwatsha (49) and Jason Rance (48) both fell short of their half-centuries.

Marlow piled more misery on winless Windsor in a three-wicket home victory to keep Justin Granger and his team rooted to the foot of the table.

Granger made 34, Jaydn Clark 23 and Ben Durrant 22 as Windsor posted 154 all out in 44.1 overs. Imran Nawaz (5-44) and Jeremy Batty (5-51) took the wickets for Marlow.

Windsor showed their competitive spirit to take seven Marlow wickets, Durrant claiming 4-59 and Christopher Kellard 2-15, but the hosts had enough in hand to close on 155-7 for the win. Graeme Paskins top-scored with 40.

Windsor travel to third from bottom Kew on Saturday.
