LOCAL journalist Robert Stevens will be running the Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon on Sunday 6 March to raise funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation UK.

Robert is appealing to Observer readers for donations to help him reach his target of £500.

£500 will buy a hospitality ticket for a child who wishes for a fantastic trip to Old Trafford to see Manchester United play, a magical wish for a young child fighting a life threatening illness.

The run is 13.1 miles or approximately three and a half laps of Silverstone's Grand Prix circuit. Despite it being Robert's first half marathon he aims to finish in less than two and a half hours.

He said: "I wasn't sure whether to run or not when a friend of mine suggested it to me over Christmas.

"I've had to really self-motivate myself to get through a tough training schedule but you always push yourself that little bit more when you think why you're doing it.

"Training started slowly but I'm gradually getting quicker and more used to running long distances. Running under two and a half hours will be tough but I'm determined to give it a go.

Regards fund raising he added: "I really hope I raise my target of £500. It would be fantastic to know that I've been able to give someone the opportunity to enjoy such a brilliant trip."
