WSEH claim big victory

SUCCESS was claimed by Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow athletes at the Aviva Under-23/20 in Bedford at the weekend.

Several athletes staked their claim for a place in the GB team for the World Under-23 Championships later this year as WSEH emerged with four champions, one silver medallist and three bronze winners.

Along with Alan McKie's victory in the high jump, current European U20 Champion Lawrence Clarke (pictured left) enhanced his growing reputation with a win in the U23 110m hurdles in a club record time of 13.60 seconds.

Dan Pembroke's run of success continued with a victory in the U20 javelin with 72.43m.

Deji Tobais was narrowly beaten in the 100m, claiming silver in 10.57 but Steve Watson set a WSEH club record in claiming bronze in the discus with 54.94m with another bronze coming in the 400m hurdles U20 via Ashley Fry.

Sophie Upton was the sole WSEH female champion with a club record in the U23 pole vault with 3.95m. Shelayna Oskan staked her claim for a relay place with third in the 400m.

n This weekend Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow are in action on Saturday at Portsmouth in the Ladies Southern League whilst the men travel to Guildford for their Southern League match.

On Sunday the U20 team are at Woodford for their National Junior League match. Several of the club's senior athletes will be in Birmingham for the European Games Trials.
