Croft stars for WSEH

BECCA Croft was the star of the show for Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow at the National Cross Country Championships at Roundhay Park, Leeds.

In the under-13 race Croft claimed bronze to add to her gold in the Southern Championships with team finishing 12th.

Jamie Cumins was the surprise best placed finisher for the club in the under-13 boys in 40th place as the team were sixth.

WSEH's biggest contingent came in the under-15 girls where the team finished sixth again as Ruth Bourne led the way, claiming sixth place.

Ricky Harvie blasted back to form in the under-15 boys race with an excellent 10th place as the team finished in 11th.

There were also plenty of WSEH runners in the under 17 mens race but it was a long wait before the first appeared, Nathan Ditton in 92nd spot as the team were 17th.

In contrast WSEH fielded just one runner in the under 17 ladies event but Bex Myers impressed in third.

The under-20 mens race saw a dominant run from Alex Tovey who was 11th and again there was just one WSEH runner in the senior ladies race where Charlotte Firth achieved her best ever placing of 41st.

The senior mens race had some 3,000 competitors and WSEH's Welsh Cross Country Champion Owain Jones was 56th.

Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow have two athletes named in the Great Britain team to compete in the World Indoor Championships in Goa, India with Nigel Levine and Dawn Hunt selected for their respective 4x400m relay squads.

More national titles in the indoor under-20/17/15 championships were added to the host of minor medals claimed by Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow athletes at the senior championships a couple of weeks ago.

Stephanie Clitheroe won the under-15 60m hurdles title in Birmingham on Sunday with a time of 9.06 seconds.

In the same final Morgan Lake finished fifth but she went on to take the long jump crown with a leap of 5.61m. Despite having hopes of further success in the shot, she registered three foul throws.

WSEH figured highly in the under-20 60m where Deji Tobais took the silver award in 6.75 with Alex Ojo third in 6.65.

Another bronze fell to Sam Maguire in the under-17 60m hurdles in 8.33 who also went on to make the final of the 200m, finishing in sixth place.

Also in this age group Charlie Smith set a personal best of 4.00m in the pole vault to secure bronze.
