DORNEY Lake hosted the 2009 Men's Fitness Rough Track Triathlon last Sunday (September 20th) and the event was a remarkable success.

Some well-known athletes visited the Royal County to compete and British no. 2 off-road triathlete Tim McDowell won the 'Advanced' category - a gruelling combination of an 800m swmin, a 20km bike ride and a 9km run.

The competition is one of the UK's most popular off-road triathlons, with around 1,000 competitors taking part.

Entrants in the Advanced, Sprint and Relay categories first took to the waters of the London Olympic venue of Dorney Lake, before the mountainbiking and running stages led participants through the stunning forest that surrounds the picturesque lake.

Well-known athlete Jim McConnell, who finished third in the 'Advanced' category lauded the event for its organisation as well as for the challenge it poses to athlettes "I really like this event, it's a good challenge for professionals but also a good introduction for novices, which makes it quite unique."

Well-known for its friendly atmosphere, the Men's Fitness Rough Track Triathlon surpassed itself again this year, attracting a hoard of spectators to cheer on friends and family. Maintaining its long-standing support for charity, the triathlon was again partnered with Leukaemia Research.
