THE England Combined Events Indoor Championships in Sheffield proved disastrous for two of the three WSEH competitors on Saturday.

In the women's pentathlon, Morgan Lake appeared to be well on the to securing the Under-20 (U20) title after winning the hurdles in 8.74 seconds; the high jump with a modest 1.57m, and the shot with a classy 13.41m.

However, in one of her favoured events, the long jump, Lake recorded three no jumps to take her out of the overall reckoning.

In the U23 age group, Celia Quansah won the high jump with 1.57m, but lacklustre performances in the some of the other events saw her fail to contest the final event - the 800m.

Nadya Wisham, in the U23 competition, completed five events in 17th place with 2,803 points.

Morven Goodrum was not overawed by her selection for the England U17 team in the Great Edinburgh Cross Country event on Saturday.

It was contested by teams from the USA, Europe, Wales and Ireland, and Goodrum finished an excellent 15th out of some 85 finishers.
