JOHN Brennan has challenged Britwell to give defending champions Delaford a run for their money after making an impressive start to the new season.

Britwell made it two from two with a 5-2 win at Berks Elite on Saturday thanks to a Craig Kelly brace plus goals from Dan Sears, Sam Stanley and James Betts.

Brennan knows there will be tougher matches to come, but he has targeted a respectable position in the Premier Division, plus a decent run in the cups.

The player-manager told the Observer: “Berks Elite are new to the league and a welcome addition because they’re a good bunch of lads.

“They try to play football the right way, out from the back and with a good tempo.

“We started a little lacklustre and fell a goal behind. I can’t put my finger on why we sometimes start slow because in other matches we fly out of the blocks.

“I used to think it had something to do with the warm-up but I can’t odds it.

“It’s like purple patches in a match and who can be the most clinical when you’re in those moments.

“We got a foothold in the game and went 3-1 up, before one of the Berks Elite players was shown a red card and it was all downhill from there for them.

“They’re a new side with new players so it’ll be a lesson learnt from their point of view.”

Brennan continued: “It was a deserved win and it has been a good start because you always want to put points on the board early on.

“There will be tougher fixtures to come but we had a good pre-season also and have snowballed into the season.

“If we can keep this up it could come to fruition for us. We want to keep up a good standard and give Delaford a run for their money if we can.

“If we can finish with a respectable league position and have a decent run in one of the cups then I will be happy.

“I would like to win a cup but haven’t set targets too high in case you don’t reach them and full flat on your face.”
