THERE were too many gaps in the Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) Athletics Club team to make any real impact on the Alder Valley Boys League Trophy final.

The cub managed a total of 541 points to finish in fifth position behind winners Bracknell (768) in Reading on Sunday. Reading (720) and Hillingdon (671) completed the podium positions.

The best results for WSEH came in the Under-17 age group field events. Naman Sharma was second in the discus with 29.24m, with George Smith also runner-up in the B string on 19.91m. Smith went on to notch a personal best (PB) in the javelin with 38.13m.

Points accrued across the board in the U15 section. Oliver Cloherty was second in the 300m in 40.5 seconds (secs), with Jack Campbell also runner-up in the B race in 42.4secs. Campbell grabbed another second place in the 800m when clocking two minutes and 13.8 seconds (2:13.8).

Finley Moore was the major points scorer in the throws. He won the javelin with a new PB of 40.76m, with the busy Campbell ensuring maximum points for WSEH with his B string victory on 25.34m.

There was second place finishes for Moore (25.93m) and Chris Williams (16.59m) in the discus. The same pairing contested the hammer with Williams having the edge this time. He set a new PB of 30.01m for second position with Moore winning the B string with 27.81m.

WSEH sprinters were to the fore in the U13 age group. Isiah Samuel (13.0secs) and Joseph Okoro (14.2secs) were both runner-up in the 100m, while Adam Sfendla won the 200m in 28.3secs.

Sfendla also contributed to maximum points in the 75m hurdles, winning the A race in 13.6secs. Kai Norbron took the the B race in 14.4secs.

The best result from the field came via Monty Gurney, who won the javelin with a new PB of 27.50m.

The top result in the relays came in this age group from the squad of Samuel, Norbron, Okoro and Sfendla with victory in 58.2secs.

  • WINDSOR, Slough, Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) Athletics Club finished in second place in the Alder Valley Girls League Trophy final.

A strong performance from the Under-17 (U17) girls saw the club rack up 712 points to finish runners-up behind winners Reading in Eton.

The in-form athlete was Jodie Smith after she won the high jump with 1.60m and repeated the feat in the long jump (5.30m). She was also second in the 80m hurdles with a time of 12.2 seconds (secs).

Smith was well-supported by Fran McLeod, who won the B string long jump with 4.43m, and by Emily Helsby, who was second in the B string high jump on 1.40m. McLeod went on to win the triple jump with 9.78m.

The success in the jumps continued in the pole vault where Liska Nowers took the honours with a 2.90m clearance, with Megan Harris in second place on 2.10m.

The WSEH U17 throwers were also on song with Francesca Williams winning the hammer with 52.29m. Jessica Woodford made it maximum points for the club with her B string victory on 25.11m.

Annabelle Pettipher was runner-up in the javelin with a throw of 20.21m.

Orla Brennan was the major contributor on the track, winning the 300m hurdles in 46.8secs. Zuri Mullings added to the points total with her B race win in 50.5secs.

Brennan also placed second in the 200m in 26.6secs, this time partnered by Shanelle Onastas, who was also runner-up in 27.9secs.

Points were harder to come by in the U15 girls’ section with the best track results coming in the 200m where Liana Williams was second on 28.5secs.

There were also second places in the discus for Abi Woodford (18.15m) and Erin Oliver.

The best of the relay results came from this age group with a second place in 53.7secs for the squad of Olivia Downey, Williams, Sophia Martin and Olivia Murphy.

The U13 girls also struggled to make their mark. The best track results came in the 600m where Tyra Coker (1:47.20) and Freya Ruffels (1:54.80) both grabbed second place finishes.

Chanel Lovelock was second in the 70m hurdles in 11.9secs. She was back in action in the shot where she placed second in the A string with 9.40m. Hannah Kolawole was runner-up in the B string with 7.15m.
